Minnesota Farm Bureau President Kevin Paap hosted U.S. Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue at his farm over the weekend. It was part of the Secretary’s farm tours across the country. Paap says they had over 130 farmers that attended and met with the Secretary. He says one of the top concerns they told Perdue about was the need to address issues like trade and regulations impacting agriculture.

He says producers also want the Secretary to make sure U.S. negotiators keep the gains made in the original NAFTA as well improve the agreement as talks get underway this month on the modernization of the deal.

Paap says they also talked to the Ag Secretary about the importance of maintaining a good and reliable crop insurance program with the next farm bill.

Paap says they also spoke with the Secretary about helping those just starting to farm.
