Minnesota Farm Bureau Pleased With Tax Credit Movement

Minnesota lawmakers winding down their 2014 session have come to agreement in conference committee on property tax relief amounting to a total of $ 103 milllion. Under that, farmers and ranchers will get $16 million in relief according to Minnesota Farm Bureau’s Public Policy Director Doug Busselman. He says that relief comes in the form of a homestead or ag credit.
He says the House Senate Conference Committee worked out a homestead ag credit that is a rebate. Busselman says they increased that rebate going forward.
Busselman says the homestead or ag credit is a good step forward to helping farmers and ranchers with property tax relief but more needs to be done in the future. He says escalating land values need to be taken into account where more people shoulder a part of that tax burden.
