Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton is proposing spending $ 6 billion for the state’s infrastructure upkeep and maintenance. State Farm Bureau Policy Director Doug Busselman says the Governor is looking at a substantial tax increase that will significantly raise fuel prices.
Busselman says Farm Bureau is opposing the Governor’s plan and will work to see it defeated in the legislature.
Busselman says his group wants lawmakers to look at using existing state funds in paying for infrastructure needs.
The Governor’s plan would upgrade 2200 miles of state roads and repair or replace 330 aging bridges. Opponents to his plan says the tax to fund it would hurt poor and middle income families the worst.
