Minnesota lawmakers are on recess but have more work to do before they adjourn on May 23. Minnesota Farm Bureau Government Relations Director Amber Glaeser says the legislature passed several bill helpful to agriculture such as drought relief and bird flu assistance. However, legislators are still debating how to spend the $9.2 billion dollar surplus.
She says the Minnesota House and the Senate are also working on bills to expand small and medium sized meat processors.
Glaeser says the Minnesota Farm Bureau is interested in seeing estate tax reform, along with tax credits extended to beginning farmers.
The Minnesota legislature will return to session following the Easter break.
