Minnesota Board of Animal Health has decided to extend the ban for poultry exhibition shows until June 1st.  Michael Crusan (Crew-sand) is the Communications Director with the Board of Animal Health and says it is the hope of the board that the number of bird flu incidents continues to drop.  Crusan says the animal health board is hoping the ban will only be temporary.

Crusan says officials are hopeful they can lift the temporary ban in time for when Minnesota county fairs begin. However, as of now, the animal health board wants to review the situation day-by-day.

As of Thursday, Minnesota had 60 cases of the bird flu, with many occurring in backyard smaller flocks.  That compares to the more than 100 cases from the 2015 outbreak.  Crusan says one reason for the lower number this year is the improved bio-security measures taken by poultry producers.
