As Minnesota lawmakers consider the impact on businesses from an early end to walleye season on Lake Mille Lacs, the Department of Natural Resources is focusing on the biological side of the problem and has drawn up a plan to restock walleye in the lake.
DNR Commissioner Tom Landwehr says Mille Lacs is infested with zebra mussels and spiny waterfleas, so a hatchery with biosecurity measures needs to be identified. He says once that happens, restocking could begin this spring.
