The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is rolling out their new Dairy Assistance, Investment and Relief Initiative or DAIRI program. It’s to provide an incentive to the state’s dairy farmers who enroll for five years of coverage under the USDA’s Dairy Margin Coverage program. Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Thom Petersen says those who successfully apply for the program will see payments coming in two installments.

He says dairy producers have until the third week of September to sign up.

Petersen says part of the reason for the state incentive program is to encourage dairy producers to also take part in the federal Dairy Margin Coverage program.

Petersen says to enroll dairy producers need fill out a DAIRI application and W9 forms and include a statement from their processor detailing the amount of milk produced in 2018.
