Minnesota Dairy Leader Says TPP Looks Positive

Next up for American supporters of the Trans Pacific Partnership agreement is getting it approved by Congress. One of the major sticking points to getting a final TPP done was getting agreement on dairy issues. Minnesota Milk Producers Association President Pat Lunemann says it was big accomplishment getting both Canada and Japan to agree to the deal.
Lunemann says given the fact that Canadian dairy producers operate with a different system, he’s surprised negotiators were able to come to terms with the TPP.
He is pleased that there’s been positive advancement of the trade agenda as it’s important to not only dairy but to all of agriculture.
Lunemann is hoping Congress will approve the TPP. He says whether or not that’ll help with the Trans Atlantic trade discussions isn’t known. He thinks the Europeans may be tougher to convince to come to the table.
