The Milk Income Loss Contract program has been extended through September 1 or until the new Margin Protection Program is operational.  Minnesota Milk Producer’s Association President Pat Lunemann says M-I-L-C is the only price protection dairymen have until the new farm bill is implemented which has the margin protection program.

He says the margin protection program is not designed to keep producer’s profitable but is to defend them against low margins.

Lunemann says the margin protection program will offer farmers some flexibility in how much coverage they want. He says it’s somewhat like crop insurance in that producers can pick their levels.
