USDA projected record U.S. corn and soybean crops in their latest supply and demand tables. However, Minnesota may not top last year’s 188 bushel per acre yield record on corn and USDA even pegged the state’s yield at 184 bushels per acre. Tom Haag farmers near Eden Valley, Minnesota. He says he doesn’t think the crop is as good as last year because its not as consistent and there has been some weather and storm damage.
Courtland, MN Farmer Tim Waibel says his corn is running about the same as 2015.
Haag says the soybeans are also looking very good, but again not a record.
While Waibel is more optimistic about his bean yields, he doesn’t think they he doesn’t think the beans will top last year due to late seedings and the onset of disease.
They both admit August weather will be key for filling and it may take until the combines roll to determine the actual yield.
