The U.S. Department of Agriculture, EPA and Food and Drug Administration are working on simplifying the regulatory process for agricultural biotechnology. That’s following an Executive Order from President Donald Trump. Minnesota Corn Grower’s President Brian Thalmann says having a reduction in those rules and a more efficient process is something corn growers want to see.

He says the rapid advancement of biotechnology has been valuable for America’s farmers and ranchers and has also helped consumers. Thalmann says be improving biotech regulations, that increases those benefits.

Thalmann says making sure ag biotechnology is easily accessible helps farmers meet the challenge of feeding a growing world population.

One of the proposed rules from the USDA would allow crops produced with GM techniques with a low risk and long history of safety bypass the agencies regulatory process in the future.
