The chances for passing a new Farm Bill in the House may have gotten bleaker. Not only is there bickering between the two parties over the SNAP program in the legislation now President Donald Trump is threatening to veto the measure if it does not contain work requirements for SNAP. Minnesota Corn Growers Association President Kirby Hettver says that will make it even tougher to pass the Farm Bill.
He says both Republicans and Democrats seem to agree on most components of the farm bill except for the nutrition or SNAP program.
Hettver says passage of a new farm bill is badly needed before the current legislation expires.
President Trump is planning to meet with the Chairmen of both the House and Senate Ag Committees, Mike Conaway and Pat Roberts. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue and White House economic advisor Larry Kudlow are also expected to attend.
