Second-seeded Minnesota won the Big Ten Softball Tournament with a 4-3 win in 10 innings over top-seeded Michigan on Saturday night at Beard Field in University Park, Pa.
The Golden Gophers earned the conference’s automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament, claiming their third tournament title and first since 2014.
Minnesota’s Sara Groenewegen was named the Tournament Most Outstanding Player after picking up three wins in two days in the circle.
Six Big Ten softball teams were selected to compete in the 2016 NCAA Division I Softball Tournament, as announced on the NCAA Selection Show Sunday night. Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern and Ohio State will be taking part in this year’s tournament.
