Court motions have been filed by a coalition of Agriculture and Forestry groups in defense of delisting of the gray wolf from the Endangered Species Act. That delisting has been challenged in court by three environmental groups from California.
Minnesota Cattlemen’s Association Executive Director Allison VanderWal says one of their producers testified on the need for keeping the wolf off the ESA.
She says since the gray wolf was listed on the ESA in 1974, it has exceeded recovery goals by more than 300 percent.
VanderWal says not only has the gray wolf population increased but it has also been moving and covering a wider area than it did before., creating a greater management problem for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The Agriculture Coalition defending the gray wolf delisting includes the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, American Sheep Industry Association, American Farm Bureau, Public Lands Council and American Forest Resources Council.
