Minnesota’s legislature got underway with their regular session on Tuesday. The State Cattlemen’s Association leader says they’ll be working with lawmakers on several key issues this session. President Dar Geiss says many of those will involve defense of their industry.
Geiss says another important legislative fix they’ll be pushing for is restoring $ 50,000 in needed money to the wolf depredation program to keep those animals from tearing up cattle herds. He says funding was taken away from depredation efforts last year and given to the Department of Natural Resources.
He says yet another priority is convincing legislators to give producers property tax relief as agriculture’s burden keeps rising.
Geiss says Association members will be traveling to the Capital on March 5 to meet with legislators.
