Minnesota Congressman Collin Peterson, chair of the House Agriculture Committee has introduced legislation that would set a deadline for refiners to request exemptions from the Renewable Fuel Standard. Minnesota Biofuels Association Executive Director Tim Rudnicki says the bill is needed to make sure the RFS is transparent and properly followed.

The measure would also require the EPA to publicly release the name of refiners requesting a waiver, the number of gallons requested to be waived and the number of gallons of biofuel that won’t be blended as result of the waiver. Rudnicki says it’s critical that the RFS is complied with.

He says another important component of RFS transparency that needs to be achieved is for the EPA to in a timely manner release the 2021 renewable volume obligations of oil refiners under the RFS.

Peterson’s bill was just heard in the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.
