Minnesota Soybean Growers Association members are concerned about an amendment proposed by the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources regarding the state’s buffer law. Minnesota Soybean Growers Association Public Policy Director Joe Smentek says the proposed amendment drastically increases the penalty for producers who haven’t implemented the proper buffers on their property.
He says the proposed amendment doesn’t follow the intent of the buffer law.
Smentek says the penalty the Board is proposing is extremely stringent and if enacted would be a burden on producers.
Smentek says the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources is taking public comment on their administrative penalty amendment up until April 16. He’s encouraging their association members to go to the BOWSR website to provide comments.
