Minnesota’s farmers and ranchers are at risk of losing tax benefits contained in legislation approved by the state legislature that conforms the state code to federal standards. Minnesota Farm Bureau Policy Director Amber Hanson Glaeser says her group is hoping to convince Governor Mark Dayton not to veto the measure.
She says there’s a great deal of uncertainty facing farmers and ranchers if the legislation isn’t signed.
Glaeser says the tax bill also contains the creation of a study group that would look at the impacts of property taxes on ag land.
Since the legislature has already adjourned there’s no opportunity to override any veto by the Governor. A special session would have to be called and that would need the Governor’s approval.
