Minimum Wage Still An Issue

Voters in South Dakota last November approved an increase in the states minimum wage to eight fifty an hour. That wage is also tied to the cost of living, with an automatic increase each year.

The South Dakota Retailers Association actively campaigned against the hike. Executive Director Shawn Lyons says that automatic increase was the big issue for them…

Lyons says they have been hearing from some members about the higher wage…

The legislature this year separated a lower minimum wage for workers under the age of eighteen at seven fifty an hour.

Lyons says the training wage provides some protections when they are hiring new employees…

There is an active petition campaign underway to refer that to voters next November.
