A forum discussing Initiated Measure 18 was held in Yankton last night. That ballot issue would raise the states minimum wage to eight fifty an hour, and index it to inflation.

Shawn Lyons, Executive Director of the South Dakota Retailers Association, says his members oppose the increase, calling it a mandate for small businesses…

Yankton attorney Ryan Cwach, speaking in favor of the increase, said more than teenagers would be affected by the wage hike…

Lyons said most businesses in the state are already paying more than the minimum …

Cwach said the bottom wage needs to be elevated…

The forum was sponsored by the Yankton Area Chamber of Commerce, and drew about twenty five people.
