South Dakota, North Dakota, Wyoming and Montana are teaming up to present a mineral nutrient series beginning in mid-May. SDSU Cow-calf specialist Adele Harty explains the goal of the series.
Harty has built up a data base of water and forage samples and encourages producers to regularly test their water and forage to see if their cow herds’ diets are deficient in some minerals. She says copper is often at low counts and explains the importance of having copper as a mineral supplement.
The SDSU Cow-calf specialist says mineral and salt blocks should be close to the water source and should be available to cows all year long. Harty says there is a registration fee of $135. The series will begin on May 17th with live webinars that will air for approximately two hours each. The programs will be recorded for viewing at a late time and date for the producers’ convenience.
