The Fourth of July falls on a Wednesday this year and many people are either taking a long weekend before or after the Fourth — or they’re taking the whole week off. Nick Jarmusz, spokesman for Triple-A-Nebraska, says the motor club survey indicates it could be a summer vacation weekend like never before.

Jarmusz says gasoline prices are averaging two-78 a gallon statewide, the highest in several years, though he says those pump prices won’t deter vacationers.

July Third is already being referred to as “Terrible Tuesday.” The motor club predicts heavy traffic congestion in the late afternoon as commuters leaving work early mix with holiday travelers.
