When Macy Miller took the court Sunday afternoon, the junior guard needed seven points to become the 33rd member of the South Dakota State University women’s basketball team to score 1,000-or-more points.
On a fast-break layup that gave the Jackrabbits an 18-4 lead, Miller topped the 1,000-point mark with 5:24 yet to play in the first quarter. Miller finished with a game-high 18 points as the SDSU improved to 2-0 on the season with an 82-49 nonconference win over SIUE in front of 1,261 fans at Frost Arena.
Miller’s brothers, Jade and Jordan, both scored more than 1,400 points in their college careers while their father, Alan, scored 2,920 points during his All-America career at Dakota Wesleyan. Her uncles Tom and Chris Miller also scored more than 1,000 collegiate points as did cousins Ryan and Jared. However, her well-known cousin, Mike, did not score 1,000 points during his two seasons at the University of Florida but has scored nearly 11,000 points in his professional career.
“It’s an ever bigger accomplishment to get it during a win,” Miller said. “The way we played today was a great feeling.”
Senior guard Kerri Young and sophomore guard Madison Guebert each added 14 points for the Jackrabbits. Young has scored 956 points in her Jackrabbits career and is on pace to become the 34th member of SDSU’s 1,000-point club.
