The major policy priority for the National Milk Producers Federation is getting Congress to fix the margin protection insurance program. The group suggested that program to Congress which approved it in the 2014 Farm Bill.. Federation’s Chris Galen says currently the program isn’t working and needs adjustments.

He says one component of the margin protection program that needs to be corrected is the feed cost calculator.

Galen says other possible fixes include adjustments to the premium levels and when the payouts are triggered.

That policy priority was brought out this week at the National Milk Producers Federation’s annual meeting.
