National Milk Producer Federation officials have filed comments with the Food and Drug Administration over the Food Safety Modernization Act. Federation’s Chris Galen says added regulations on dairy farms under FSMA are not warranted because milk leaving farms for more processing is not a significant health risk.
Galen says the dairy industry is already under strong regulations and putting on more restrictions would not enhance safety.
Galen says they told FDA that many elements of food defense are already being employed by dairy farms for reasons related to biosecurity.
