A new Centers for Disease Control Study reported the difference of foodborne illnesses related to consumption of raw milk between 1993 and 2006 and 2007 to 2012. National Milk Producer Federation’s Chris Galen says the study shows as more people get access to consuming raw milk their chances of getting sick go up.
Galen says the CDC report showed that between 1993 and 2006 there were an average of only 3 foodborne illnesses per year associated with raw milk consumption. He says however as states began relaxing those raw milk rules between 2007 and 2012, those cases went up considerably.
Galen says this study should give food for thought to state legislature’s and governors who are thinking about relaxing their rules for raw milk.
