Milk Group Pushing For Market Access In TPP

Milk Group Pushing For Market Access In TPP

Trans Pacific Partnership talks remain at impasse with Japan holding tight on protecting their sensitive products and the U.S. insisting on them bringing their tariffs to zero. There may be an opportunity to make a breakthrough at the upcoming APEC meeting this month. National Milk Producers Federation would like to see that happen. Federation’s Chris Galen says Japan is an important destination for U.S. dairy and needs market access.
Galen says it’s important to bring Japan in line as Canada may also create problems if the U.S. doesn’t follow through with Japan.
Galen says whatever comes out of the TPP also has implications for the ongoing trade talks with the European Union on the Trans Atlantic trade deal.
