Milk Federation Official Says Hard Line Needed Opposing Canada’s Dairy Policy

Canadian officials say now that they’ve agreed to the TPP 11 agreement there is no room to negotiate its dairy pricing program through the North American Free Trade Agreement. National Milk Producer Federation’s Chris Galen says the Canadians are just posturing and that his group has their dairy trade expert currently in Montreal at the NAFTA discussions.

He says it’s critical U.S. trade negotiators don’t budge on requiring Canada to correct its dairy policy and adhere to free trade rules.

Galen says his organization is pleased several members of Congress are backing them on challenging Canada’s trade distorting dairy policy.

Galen says the U.S. isn’t the only country that opposes Canada’s dairy system. He says the European Union and New Zealand both have problems with and believe it distorts free trade.
