Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue is praising proposed rulemaking by the U.S. Department of Labor on moving ahead with rule making on the H2A visa program. Minnesota Milk Producers Association Executive Director Lucas Sjostrom says that may have an indirect positive effect on immigration reform but not a huge one.

He says having the House change over to Democrat control following the elections and having Collin Peterson likely the new chairman of the House Ag Committee should help on immigration issues as well as the farm bill.

Sjostrom says earlier in the year immigration reform was their top issue but now it’s shifting towards getting a new farm bill.

Under the latest rulemaking on H2A, the Labor Department call for employers seeking to hire temporary workers to post employment opportunities on line.
