States in the Midwest hit by high path avian influenza earlier this year are gearing up for the fall migration of birds that will soon take place. Nebraska’s Assistant Director of Agriculture Bobbie Kriz-Wickham says even though their poultry industry wasn’t hit as hard as other states they want to be ready in Nebraska.
She says USDA released a fall AI plan on Friday and it builds on the lessons learned from the outbreak should the disease reappear. The plan reinforces the efforts by the agency and poultry producers to focus on increased surveillance and biosecurity on farms to prevent the bird flu.
The plan also emphasizes the need to respond even more quickly to stop the disease.
