Midwestern lawmakers have secured emergency funding for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Those funds will help the Corps address the impacts of this spring’s flooding on the Mississippi River. Waterways Council Senior Vice President Deb Calhoun is pleased to see Congress supporting the inland waterways system and recognizing the importance the Mississippi River plays in getting ag commodities to export markets.
She says keeping infrastructure upgraded is critical for the farm and national economies. Calhoun says the Representatives are ensuring the Corps will have the resources it needs to keep the Mississippi River open for business.
Calhoun says now that the Mississippi funding has been secured, the next step is to get the Fiscal Year 2020 Energy and Water Development Legislation moving.
Calhoun says besides the Energy and Water Development bill, Waterways Council will be working with Congress on the 2020 Water Resources Development Legislation.
