54 year old Gary Haggard of Clarkson, MI, has been identified as the person killed Friday morning when a truck trailer hit a parked vehicle at the Scenic Overlook exit, west of Kadoka, S.D.

A westbound 2016 International Truck Tractor pulling a tanker trailer turned off Interstate 90 at the Scenic Overlook exit. The truck trailer went up the exit ramp and into the parking lot, hitting a curb. The truck tipped over and slid into a parked 2001 Toyota Corolla, located at the north end of the parking lot.

There was nobody in the car, but the four occupants were located in the grassy area north of the parked vehicle. Two of the four occupants, both female, were seriously injured when struck by the parked vehicle after it had been hit by the truck tractor.

Haggard, who was driving the truck tractor, was transported to the Philip hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The two injured occupants of the car have been identified as 57 year old Myong Cha Chan of Columbus, GA and 63 year old Ok Yeon Yoon from South Korea. Both women were airlifted to the Rapid City hospital with life-threatening injuries.

South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other agencies on scene were the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and personnel from numerous local fire departments.

The Scenic Overlook and parking lot were closed to the public for a time. I-90 remained open.
