Mexican trade officials want the renegotiation of NAFTA to get underway so it can be wrapped up by the end of this year. Minnesota Corn Growers Association President Harold Wolle also wants the talks to begin as soon as possible. He’s hoping the U.S. can improve trade relations with Mexico and allow the U.S. to continue to remain the top supplier of their corn export needs.

He says the United States is much better equipped to export corn to Mexico verses Brazil or Argentina.

Wolle says while restoring trade relations with Mexico is important in any redo of NAFTA, fostering good relations with Canada is also necessary.

The earliest NAFTA talks are likely to take place is the end of July.
