Mexican officials are working on an updated list of U.S. products to possibly issue a second round of retaliation against for the Section 232 Steel and Aluminum tariffs the U.S. placed on them and other countries earlier. Their Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade says U.S. corn is included. National Corn Growers Association President and Nebraska grower Lynn Chrisp says if those go on that not only hurts growers but hurts the chances of ratifying the USMCA trade deal.
He says Mexico is the top market for U.S. corn exports and having them retaliate against the U.S. hurts corn growers first of all.
Chrisp says the retaliatory tariffs along with the present state of the farm economy is making it difficult on many growers to just stay in business.
Mexico’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Trade said the U.S. agricultural sector is the easiest to target because that’s what hurts the U.S. the most.
