Mexico’s Ambassador to the United States says he expects his government to quickly ratify the USMCA trade deal. South Dakota Pork Producers Council President Hofer hopes that compels the U.S. Congress to move as well and ratify the agreement as soon as possible.
He says the U.S. is currently sending pork to Mexico but it’s being subjected to retaliatory duties due to U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs on their imports. So, those need to be removed.
Hofer says as long as Mexico’s retaliatory tariffs remain in place, U.S. pork producers will continue losing money.
Mexico’s Ambassador says the USMCA only has to be ratified in their Senate to be fully approved by their country. Meanwhile, NPPC and an ag coalition of 44 other groups have requested that the metals tariffs on both Mexico and Canada be lifted.
