A Mexican trade team will be in Nebraska this week meeting with Governor Pete Ricketts, state corn industry officials and U.S. Grains Council representatives. Nebraska Corn Growers President Dan Wesely says it’s important to talk to Mexican officials directly with the recent NAFTA developments and because they’re a top market for U.S. and Nebraska corn.
He says Nebraska sells many other ag commodities to Mexico besides corn.
Wesely says it’s also positive that Robert Lighthizer has been confirmed as U.S. Trade Representative and USDA is adding an Undersecretary for Trade. He says that will help improve trading relations with Mexico and other important trading partners.
Nebraska exports $287 million of corn to Mexico annually.
