Mexican soybean processors have typically sourced soybeans from the United States, but due to quality concerns are switching some business to South America. On the South Dakota Soybean See for Yourself Tour farmers visited one of the largest soy processors in Mexico Proteinas Yoleicos. Purchasing manager Ricardo Moreno says its tied to the protein content of this year’s beans.

He needs at least 35-percent protein to process a 47-percent meal his livestock customers are demanding.

However, FM or foreign material is also higher with U.S. soybeans.

The plant processes 2000 metric tons of soybeans per day.
