South Dakota State University running back Brady Mengarelli was named Sunday as Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his stellar all-around performance in the Jackrabbits’ victory over in-state rival South Dakota.
A junior from Prescott, Arizona, Mengarelli tallied a career-high 284 all-purpose yards in the Jackrabbits’ 28-21 home victory. Mengarelli averaged 7.7 yards per carry, gaining a season-high 161 yards on 21 attempts and added three receptions for 55 yards. He completed his day with four kickoff returns for 68 yards.
As a team, SDSU set season bests with 415 rushing yards of total offense in keeping pace at the top of the league standings with a 6-1 record (7-3 overall). The Jackrabbits close out the regular season Saturday at Northern Iowa. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m. at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
