The West Coast ports which are critically for shipping U.S. red meat to Asian markets are becoming quite congested. Joe Schuele with the U.S. Meat Export Federation says the major problem is hitting mainly the port at Los Angeles and Long Beach.
He says that’s where most of the ships first end up docking before heading up the coast to Oakland and Tacoma. Schuele also says another major export problem is a shortage of shipping containers.
Schuele says they’re hoping to find a workable resolution to these issues within the next few weeks. He says they’re working with several agencies to solve the problem.
Schuele says the West Coast ports are critical for shipping exports out to not only Asian countries but also to Australia and New Zealand and to South American markets.
