The question of expanding Medicaid health coverage will be in front of South Dakota lawmakers in the final weeks of this year’s session.

New numbers from the federal government show the expansion would cover about twenty six thousand people, not the forty eight thousand that had been talked about for years.

Republican Representative Mike Stevens of Yankton says he is still concerned about increased costs in coming years…

Stevens says he has not heard any proposal on expansion that he could support…

Stevens says other states seem to be able to make deals with the federal government on Medicaid waivers…

Legislators return to Pierre today after a three day weekend.

The final day of the main run is March 13th.
