On Monday, Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts signed a proclamation declaring March 20 of 2021 as MEAT ON THE MENU Day in Nebraska. Several ag group representatives joined the Governor at the signing encouraging Nebraskans to purchase and eat meat to demonstrate support for Nebraska agriculture. Nebraska Pork Producer’s Association’s Executive Director Al Juhnke who was at the event says the red meat industry is an important economic driver for Nebraska.

He says the MEAT ON THE MENU DAY is a direct response to anti animal activist groups who have pushed events like meatless Mondays.

Juhnke says whether its pork or beef, meat is an important part of a healthy diet.

Representatives of the Pork Producers, Cattlemen Association, Grocery Industry and Restaurant Associations and Farm Bureau all attended the event along with a Registered Dietician and Personal Chef.
