An independent study commissioned by the U.S. Meat Export Federation shows U.S. beef and pork exports in 2015 returned $1.3 billion to U.S. corn farmers. Iowa cattle producers Roger Brummett is a USMEF Director. He says the study indicates without meat exports corn prices would have been about $3.15 per bushel, instead of the season average of $3.60.
South Dakota Corn Grower’s President Keith Alverson says the economic impact of U.S. meat exports are significant to the corn industry.
Alverson says these types of studies are important in their effort to convince lawmakers to approve pending trade agreements.
The study was conducted by World Perspectives, a leading agricultural consulting firm.
