Meat Export Federation Leader Says More Pork Business Possible In China

Germany has reported its first case of African Swine Fever in a wild boar. Following that, China, Japan and South Korea suspended imports of pork from Germany. That move should open more possibility for U.S. pork exports to China as well as from some other countries according to Dan Halstrom, President and CEO of the U.S. Meat Export Federation.

He says U.S. pork sales to China have gone well and this latest ASF case in Germany could improve that.

Halstrom says other U.S. pork export opportunities include Korea and Japan.

China is the world’s largest meat buyer and Germany is it’s third largest supplier.
