Meat Consumption Tied to Brain Power

A recent study published in Nature magazine found that human brain evolution would not have been possible without eating meat. The results of the study are very positive according to Holly Swee, Director of Nutrition and Consumer Education for the South Dakota Beef Industry Council.

Swee, who is a registered dietitian, says the protein in beef is important for all ages, but particularly for young people.

She says beef is also important in the diet of older American, despite reports in the popular media discouraging red meat consumption.

The study published in Nature magazine also stated that the energy saved from less chewing and the calorie-rich nutritional benefits of meat played a huge role in the evolution of the human brain.
