Senators Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Rand Paul of Kentucky have introduced the Fuel Choice and Deregulation Act. The measure would remove a major hurdle preventing consumers from purchasing higher blends such as E 15. Iowa Renewable Fuel Association Executive Director Monte Shaw says the legislation removes a quirk in the law that treats E 15 and E 10 equally all year.
Shaw says oil companies are taking advantage of the quirk in the law and not providing consumers the opportunity to purchase those higher blends such as E 15.
The Grassley Paul measure extends what’s called the Reid Vapor Pressure volatility provision and that allows E 10 and E 15 to be treated equally.
