Late last week the House Agriculture Committee approved and sent on the Reducing Regulatory Burdens Act legislation of 2015. The measure clarifies pesticide regulation in or near waters of the United States. National Council For Farmer Cooperatives President and CEO Chuck Connor was pleased with the passage and says it’s their top regulatory priority. He says without it, the regulatory burden would keep farmers from applying pesticides.
Connor says there have been past attempts to pass similar legislation that got through the House but faced an uphill battle in the Senate. He’s optimistic about the measure’s chances in the Senate this time around if they can get it through the full House.
Connor says the current Fungicide, Insecticide and Rodenticide regulations are stiff enough already and adding an extra burden would basically eliminate all pesticide use on farms and ranches.
