The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has announced details of their Hog Depopulation Cost-Share Program. It provides cost share funds to help compensate operations that were forced to depopulate animals due to supply chain back-ups during the COVID-19 pandemic. Minnesota Pork CEO Dave Preisler says the assistance will be helpful for the state’s producers.
Depopulation must have occurred between March 2 and September 30. He says the payments will be figured on a flat rate per hog times the number of hogs euthanized.
Preisler says farmers can sign up online at the Minnesota Department of Ag website.
Again, the deadline for signup is December 1. There is also a market loss program for turkey producers.
Funding for these cost-share programs is made available through the CARES Act and is part of a $7.7 million plan announced earlier this month by Gov. Tim Walz and Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan to support agricultural producers, meat processors, and farmers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
