McDonald’s corporation officials this week said they will replace high fructose corn syrup in their sandwich buns with sugar. They said it’s an ongoing effort to simplify its ingredients. Corn Refiners Association President and CEO John Bode says this type of switch has happened before but the nutritional value of both high fructose corn syrup and sugar is essentially the same.

He says those companies that have switched over from HFCS to Sugar have reversed that decision.

Bode says sugar and high frucstose corn syrup each have their advantages.

McDonald’s officials say their customers have been asking the company to remove high fructose corn syrup.
