Mauer, Santana Lead Twins

Joe Mauer and Eduardo Escobar each hit run-scoring doubles to lead the Minnesota Twins to a 2-1 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.

Right-hander Ervin Santana, signed this offseason to a four-year, $55 million contract, made his spring debut with the Twins, pitching two scoreless innings in front of a sellout crowd at refurbished Hammond Stadium.

Orioles starter Ubaldo Jimenez struck out five in two innings, but Mauer sent a sharp double to left that scored Jordan Schafer, who walked and stole second to open the bottom of the first.

Escobar, competing with Danny Santana for the starting shortstop job, doubled off the base of the center field wall in the fourth off left-hander T.J. McFarland.

Chris Parmelee, who signed a minor league deal with the Orioles in January, went 1 for 3 with a single in his first game against his former team. Parmelee was a first-round pick of the Twins in 2006.
