Farmers should take advantage of the current prices in the soybean market to move old crop soybeans. That’s the advice of Iowa State University Farm and Ag Business Management Specialist Steven Johnson. He says it’s important they have a price objective for old crop bushels.
How much of their crop should farmers price? Johnson says that varies from operation to operation.
Johnson says for farmers with on-farm storage there isn’t quite as much urgency, but they need to capture the carry in the market or better basis levels.
He expects better seasonal prices for futures and basis levels in March and April. Johnson spoke yesterday at the Growing On meeting in Sioux Falls.
